The All-American Rejects

Green Isn't Yellow

The All-American Rejects

Sandbox

Barefoot in the pastures of my childhood homestead
Rocks through yonder broken windows
Screaming lullabies for little guys in bunk beds
And the cottonwoods in summer are falling like snow

Many moons ago

Dirt roads and a six-pack
Sleeping on the floorboards
Daddy always liked to drive
Hope he's coming home tonight

School bus kicking dust out
On some rural route to Nowhere, USA
Twelve-year old me in the back bench
Just learning how to pray
I once heard someone say

"Green isn't yellow
So, go ahead or run away
Sometimes, just a little blue will get you brave. "

Four dollars in quarters from some laundry lottery
A pack of Bubblicious and a Playboy magazine
July 1996, Jenny McCarthy

A rope swing and a spillway swimming hole at Blackwell Lake
Iced tea in some dusty whisky bottle looks the same
A harvest moon and flowers bloom and Lindy was her name
And a cap and gown, then I left town
I'll always mark the day

I heard my old man say

"Green isn't yellow
So, go ahead or run away
Sometimes, just a little bit of blue will get you brave. "

Get you brave
Green isn't yellow
